September has been a crazy month to say the least! I moved to Madrid to study abroad for a semester and I’m honestly still wrapping my head around the fact that I’m finally here! I haven’t been blogging as much as I would like because it’s been sort of difficult to manage time and solidify a routine, but I promise that there’s much more travel content coming up in the next few months! That being said, I wanted to end September with a favorites post because I love writing them so much and people usually find them interesting to read. This month I will be sharing my favorite travel makeup items from face products to on-the-go beauty tools and everything in between! These products have accompanied me on my trip to Spain and I love each and every one of them so much. If you’re never quite sure what to throw into your travel makeup bag, or if you just want to learn about some great travel-friendly products you’re going to love this post!
i. MAC Studio Fix Foundation: Since it’s been really hot here so far I haven’t been wearing foundation every day. However I know that once it gets cooler I can count on this foundation to offer full coverage and provide a great base for the rest of my makeup! The main travel-worthy feature of this foundation is that fact that it stays on all day, making it a great option for any adventures or excursions you go on!
ii. Maybelline Better Skin Waterproof Concealer: I love this concealer because it comes in a small, compact tube that is perfect for travel! It also has pretty long wear and the fact that it is waterproof makes it perfect for beach vacays, sweaty days or splashy attractions!
iii. Target Beauty Blenders: These adorable little sponges save you from having to tote your entire collection of face and foundation brushes overseas. They are compact, durable and easy to clean making them the perfect makeup applicators. The mini beauty blender also does an amazing job of blending makeup into the smaller areas of your face and concealing the dark circles that inevitably accompany traveling!
iv. Sonia Kashuk Bronzer: This bronzer has been my travel buddy for years now! I love this product so much because it adds the most beautiful glow to my face. It has shimmer but it is very subtle and the overall look this bronzer provides is sunkissed and vacation photo ready. I’ve also used this bronzer on my lids as an eyeshadow countless times because the consistency and shade are so lovely. This product is a definite must-have for adventure loving girls!
i. NYX Micro Brow Pencil: Although traveling can leave you looking pretty raggedy, if one part of your face should look presentable it’s your brows. I use this lovely little eye pencil to outline the shape of my brows and provide definition. This pencil is very tiny so it’s easy to carry around with you no matter where you go! Also, the color payoff and precision of the tip can’t be beat!
ii. NYX Tame and Frame Brow Pomade: I use this pomade to fill in my brows after I’ve outlined them to get the full “Instagram brows” effect! This little pot is a great dupe for the Anastasia Beverly Hill brow pomade but at a much lower price, you won’t have to stress too much about it getting lost or damaged during travel!
iii.Milani Easy Brow Tinted Fiber Gel: I use this product to put the finishing touches on my brows after I’ve used pencil and pomade. However, the true beauty of this product is that it can be used by itself to provided volume and definition if you have limited space in your makeup bag or are in a hurry!
i. Too Faced Natural Eyes Palette: Picking and choosing which eyeshadow palettes to bring on a trip can be a tricky process. I like to simplify by just bringing along my favorite Too Faced Palette. There are 3 things that make this palette perfect for travel! Firstly it is very compact which is ideal to save on space. Secondly, it has an amazing range of shades for such a small palette (nudes, mattes, shimmery hues, they’re all there!). Thirdly the case it metal which makes it tough to break. I’ve had palettes that have literally cracked in half when I traveled with them, but now I don’t have to worry about that because this palette is one tough cookie!
ii. Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara: This mascara has been my holy grail for a while now! It provides great length and volume and is very inexpensive! This makes it the perfect travel companion for your lashes!
iii. elf Liquid Eyeliner: This eyeliner is very small, it has great color pay-off and it’s $1! You can’t go wrong with such an inexpensive product that takes up so little space. Additionally the brush is small and allows for a lot of precision, we’re talking near perfect wings every time!
iv. Nude Eyeliner: I use this nude eyeliner from Rimmel on my waterline and it works like charm! It’s the perfect way to fake 8 hours of sleep when you really got 3 due to a busy night of traveling or sightseeing!
v. A Lash Curler: A lash curler is the one tool you can count on to open your eyes, lengthen your lashes and instantly make you look more awake. As a result, a good lash curler is a tired traveler’s best friend!
i. NYX Soft Matte Lip Cremes: I love these little lip colors so much! They have a creamy non-drying formula and have amazing pigmentation! They’re also very appropriate for travel because the shades are named after famous cities from around the world. My personal favorite is Cannes!
ii. Benefit Sugarbomb Lip Gloss: This travel-sized lipgloss definitely packs a big punch. It’s the perfect gloss to layer over a nude or pink lip when you want a hint of shimmer. Also true to its name (Sugarbomb) it smells like a cupcake shop!
ii. Wet and Wild MegaLast Liquid Catsuit Matte Lipstick: If you’re traveling and you want a liquid lipstick that won’t budge all day, these should be your go-to. The color is vibrant and they have serious staying power so you can enjoy all of your favorite vacation activities including eating, sipping and even smooching while rocking bright, bold lips!
Highlight and Contour
i. Wet and Wild Contour Stick: This product made an appearance in my July Favorites and I’m still hooked. You can contour your entire face with just one great product. This is perfect for when you want to kick up your travel beauty routine and add some extra glamour!
ii. Benefit’s Sunbeam: If you want to achieve the same glow as those sunkissed Instagram models this product is your very best bet. This amazing highlighter adds the most beautiful golden hue to every skin-tone. I have been traveling with this product for years and it has never let me down! It comes in an adorable glass bottle that makes it durable enough to withstand being tossed about in your makeup bag!
Tools and Bags
It’s so important to pick and choose the most essential and versatile cosmetic tools while traveling. I generally go with an eyebrow shaper (if I’ll be away for a while), a pencil sharpener and 3 brushes! For my trip to Spain I packed a small, medium and large brush – an eyeshadow blending brush, a contour brush, and a big powder brush! Even though these brushes have specific uses, I think they’re all very versatile and can be used to apply and blend several different types of makeup!
Last, and possibly most important is the bag that you use to store your makeup collection while you travel. I recommend investing in a roomy, durable bag that you’ll be able to reuse for years. I use an amazing travel cosmetic case by Kenneth Cole and I love how neatly it stores and protects my makeup! I recommend finding a good sized bag that has multiple compartments as it makes makeup storage much easier!
I hope you enjoyed this roundup of my favorite travel makeup products! If you know someone who’s going on a trip soon be sure to share this post with them! In the comments I want to know: If you could only travel with one makeup item, what would it be? (I would totally choose the mascara I mentioned in this post!)
