Reflections After a Full Month of Blogging

July 23, 2017

To say that this month has been a blur would be an understatement. After a full month of working and juggling my blog I really wanted to sit down to get personal and reflect. This month I have taken the first steps in my blogging journey and after just one month I feel like I learned so much. I want to share my thoughts for readers and for other new bloggers who can relate to the craziness that comes with launching a website!

Full-time jobbing and part time blogging has definitely been an eye-opening experience. My days start at 6:50 and I work the standard 9-5pm at my summer internship. My commute is pretty long so I generally do not get home until 6:45. I’ve really had to take a hard look at my schedule and see where I can fit in time to work on the blog. I do quite a bit of outreach in the morning by posting on Insta and other social media sites. It’s actually really easy to work this into my morning commute because it’s so long! On my lunch break I’ll check up on the blog and do some more outreach. The evenings are when I do the majority of the heavy lifting for my blog. I write and revise my content, work on my website’s design and try to spread the word about Laila Anne Co. I also use the evenings to visit other blogs to read and comment on their work. Although it can be stressful to juggle my job and my blog I feel like it is good preparation for the fall when I’ll go back to being a full-time student!

There have been several things that I have really struggled with this month as a new blogger. The first thing is posting consistently. I launched my blog with six posts and was determined to put out a few more each week in July. However, it was much harder than I thought it would be to stick to a set posting schedule. I think it was so difficult to get my posts out on time because as a new blogger I didn’t know how much work actually goes into writing a quality blog post. I can say that I now have a good idea of how long it takes me to construct a great post and in August I will use this information to post much more consistently.

My email list has been another major struggle that I have faced. I just can’t seem to get it up and running and I feel bad because I know this is something every blog needs to retain loyal readers and be successful. Luckily I have signed up for an August email list building challenge to get some help with this!

Along with the stress and the serious blogging learning curve, there have also been some pretty high points this month. For one I love how my website is coming along – given that it is totally DIY – I’ve really been working hard to ensure that it is really attractive and cohesive. I’ve kind of been enhancing the design a little bit at a time and I love how my blog looks right now. I am most proud of the heart lockets that I designed for my header!

Another high point has been the growth of my Instagram. I post every day and since I launched my blog I have gained over 500 followers! I am completely amazed by how sweet everyone in the blogging community in Instagram is. I have met so many lovely girls and it’s so cool to connect with them through the app! I really do try to post really pretty photos with engaging captions and so far I think my hard work has paid off. If you would like to follow along on my Instagram you can find me here. Overall all of the support and encouragement I have gotten this month on Instgram and here on the blog make me so glad that I finally decided to share my bits and pieces life through blogging.

Thanks for reading this post loves, your support means the world to me! XX

Yay and Congratulations on your first month blogiversary! I’m almost two months in myself and I agree it is a bit rough at times. My email list is non-existent as well and my social media accounts are slow growing. Keep up the good work, I’d love to see your continued success!
