How to Boost Your Makeup IQ

July 2, 2017

Are you a bit lost when it comes to beauty? I f so you’re not alone! These days beauty trends range from face “baking” to neon eyeshadow and it can be hard to keep up with what’s hot and what’s not. Here are 4 simple ways to boost your Makeup IQ and master a full arsenal of products.

1. Use Youtube

Youtube is chock full of amazing beauty tutorials. Simply search the skill you want to learn or the look you want to create and you’re guaranteed to get a ton of great results. A pro tip is to do your makeup along with the tutorial. This way you can see the progression of the look and identify where you struggle. Practice makes perfect and what better way to spend a lazy Sunday than by trying fun new makeup tutorials.

2. Take a Free Class

As if we need one more reason to love Sephora, they’ve started offering free in-store beauty classes. You can learn some of the trickiest makeup skills like false lash application, flawless foundation, and winged liner.  Did I mention that these classes are FREE and you can register online. Makeup experts will guide you through these looks and give you tips on how to perfect your technique. Grab a friend and hit your local Sephora to revamp your makeup skills. Just don’t forget your wallet because we all know that you’ll end up leaving with a couple new items.

3. Take Advantage of Instagram

On Instagram there are tons of accounts that showcase beautiful makeup photos and video clips.  Give a couple of these accounts a follow and you’ll be able to brush up on your makeup skills as you scroll through your feed. With a little luck, you’ll be rocking HD defined brows and bold lips in no time!

4. Hit the Beauty Bar

This one is for my girls who do the majority of their makeup shopping at the drugstore. Don’t get me wrong, the drugstore is actually an amazing place to find makeup, often at cheaper prices, which is always a plus! However paying a visit to a local beauty bar or boutique can do wonders for your makeup game. While the products are often a little pricier, the beauty professionals at the shop will pick out products that are perfectly suited for you. This is great because it can be hard to find the best fit in makeup products at the drugstore without breaking the packaging.  At a beauty bar, everything is laid out in front of you for you to sample and test out. Take advantage of this opportunity to find your ideal foundation shade or perfect nude lipstick. Go to the beauty bar for pro tips and expert advice, then take your new beauty IQ to the drugstore and knock yourself out.

I loved this post! I especially liked what you wrote about the free Sephora classes! Although, to this day, I still haven’t nailed the winged eyeliner thing! 😂🙈 And truth is, not once, I repeat…not once, have I been able to walk into Sephora and leave empty-handed! I think that’s impossible! I enjoyed reading this so much! Thanks for sharing 🙂

I’m so glad you enjoyed! 💕I think everyone has a certain beauty skill they’ve yet to master, practice is key! And my wallet definitely goes into distress whenever I walk past Sephora!

Youtube taught me so much about makeup. My makeup skils are so much better because of youtube artists.
