Well, well, well it seems February is upon us (which is really weird because it feels like just yesterday I was welcoming y’all back to the blog for the new year). In the words of Donna Meagle, February is a time to “Treat Yo Self!” – nourish your body and your soul with good food, good relationships, and meaningful self-reflection. In honor of February and all of the great holidays it brings I’m going to share 7 ways you can make the most of Treat Yo Self 2018!
Indulge in Some Sweets
February is the unofficial month of the sugar rush. Everywhere you look, stored and bakeries are rolling out an assembly of adorable sweets in honor of V-Day. Whether it’s a fun new coffee at Starbucks or an impeccably decorates cupcake from a boutique bakery treat yourself and your taste buds to some exciting Valentine’s Day inspired fare.
Try a New Trend
2018 is promising to be one of the trendiest years we’ve seen in a long time, so what better way to pamper yourself than by upgrading your look! Some fun ideas include layered jewelry, soft lilac pieces and over the knee boots! When you have time hit the mall (or that cute, trendy thrift store you’ve been meaning to go to) and pick up an item or two to embellish your wardrobe! If you look good you’ll feel good so don’t be afraid to try something a little out of your comfort zone if you really love it!
Buy Yourself Flowers
You may be used to receiving flowers but this February nothing’s stopping you from treating yourself to a beautiful floral arrangement! Some bright blooms are sure to take your living space out of its dreary winter slump and bring out a fun vibe in anticipation of spring! You can order them online or shop your local florist for some fresh picks! I’m pretty sure it’s impossible to be sad or stressed while shopping for flowers!
Cook Yourself a Nice, Nutritious Meal
Nothing says love like a delicious, home-cooked meal, so why not spoil yourself with an amazing dinner a few times this month. Cooking is a skill that everybody should have and knowing how to prepare delicious and healthy food for yourself will help save you lots of dollars on takeout. So invest some time in yourself and learn to cook a tasty dish or two! You can even take a cooking or baking class if that’s your thing but your own kitchen should work just fine (bonus points if you invite your squad over to share the culinary masterpiece you create!). Figure Out What You Lack In Terms of Self Love
Part of self-love is taking time to think about your biggest struggles when it comes to loving yourself. How can you get better at something if you don’t know what you need to be working on? This month I encourage you to take some time to reflect on your weaknesses when it comes to loving and taking care of yourself. Do you not make time for self-care at the end of the day, do you constantly feel the need to compare yourself to other? Whatever it is, identify your shortcomings so you can really take this month to confront them and learn to love yourself better! You can keep track of these ideas in a journal and track your progress or simply make a mental not, whatever will help you make a conscious effort to be kinder to yourself!
Go Out and Do Good
You can totally do community service any month of the year but I’m going to throw this into my list because I think it’s an amazing way to check in with your values and spread positivity while empowering your community. This month I challenge you to find an organization you absolutely love and get involved as a volunteer. There are so many options out there and there is truly something for everyone! Whether you’re an introvert of the most extroverted person around you can rest assured that the perfect volunteer position is out there for you. Community work is a great way to get in touch with your passions, grow as a person and make genuine connections with other people. So don’t be afraid to spread the love because I think you’ll find you get a lot back!
Take Your Artsy Side to See Something New, Creative and Fun
It’s still pretty chilly out (at least where I live) so it’s the perfect time of year to enjoy one of the many plays, dance performances or art exhibits that are no doubt being put on in your city at the moment. These kinda dreary winter days can get kind of dull and there’s nothing like beautiful art or performances to brighten up your day! Whether you go visit a local art gallery or see an amazing concert there are countless options for you to express your more creative side this month. Even if art isn’t really your thing, you owe it to yourself to try something new and fun, who knows you may just find a new passion!
